hello,
i´ve a problem :-) i searched the newsgroup but don´t find a good answer.
i have 2 cisco 2610 which are connected over hsrp to the internet. no
problem. than the routers are connected to switches (2). i also have here no
problem - hsrp.
but how can i connect both routers to both switches so i´ve a redundant
ethernet-interface on every side??
i read about irb, etherchannel....but how can i resolve my problem?!
thanks a lot,
Jens

One idea is to have two ethernet ports on each router and than connect
every router to both switches.

a what a good idea ;-) i have 2 ethernet ports on each router - the question
is how to configure it...it should only be a backup link, nothing else. if
one switch dies he should change his interface and should work normaly....
any ideas?
thanks a lot

You can do it in at least two ways:
1. On L2
- use IRB on both ethernet interfaces and use spanning tree to block one
of the ports. This thing works ok if you don't have too much traffic
(because IRB has some issues with lot of traffic).
2. On L3
- if your switches are L3, you can use any routing protocol to make one
of the pipes more desirable than other.

What do you mean by every side? You want four interfaces per router?
Two facing two switches on the Internet side and two more for internal?
